The digital menu checklist for restaurants
Before you put the QR code on the tables, go through this list. A good digital menu is fast, clear and accurate, and it saves guests and staff time that both of them value.
It opens fast on any phone
A guest should see the menu within seconds, without downloading an app or signing up. Test it on an older phone and on a weak connection; if it opens there, it opens everywhere. Heavy pages with huge photos lose the guest before they order.
The QR code is large, well printed and tested
The code should be big enough to scan from arm’s length, with good contrast, and not hidden behind a glass or the table setting. Test it at every table, in low light and with different phone cameras. Add a line of text with the web address for guests who do not scan.
Prices, descriptions and allergens are accurate
A digital menu is only useful if it is true. Check that prices match the till, that sold-out items are hidden and that allergens are marked. Give one person the job of reviewing the menu every week.
- Prices match the till
- Sold-out items do not show to guests
- Allergens and dietary notes are marked
It speaks your guests’ languages
If you have tourists or visitors, a menu in Albanian and English is the minimum. The translation should be checked by someone who speaks the language rather than machine-translated, especially for dish names and allergens.
Your staff know how it works
A waiter should be able to show a guest how to open the menu and order, and to help when they get stuck. A digital menu does not replace hospitality; it only removes the unnecessary waiting for a menu and the bill.
You can update it within a minute
Prices change, items run out, offers start and end. Try it: change a price and time how long it takes for guests to see it. If it takes more than a minute, the system is not helping as much as it should.

- Does a guest need to download an app to see the menu?
- No. A QR digital menu opens directly in the phone’s browser. That is one of the reasons guests use it so easily.
- How do we know the QR code scans well?
- Test it at every table with several phones, in low light and from a normal distance. Keep the code large, high-contrast and free of glare.
- What happens when an item runs out?
- In a digital menu you mark the item as sold out and guests stop seeing it. That prevents orders for something you cannot serve.
